‘PEACE’ is the state of restful mind. This ‘PEACE’ is expressed in a poem by the distinguished spiritual giant of twentieth century:-

PEACE
It is joy that never spoke
And grief unfelt, profound,
Immortal life unlived,
Eternal death not mourned,
It is not joy, nor sorrow
But that which is between
It is not night, nor morrow
But that which joins them in

Wordsworth describes the state of restful mind in his poem on ‘Daffodils’

Whenever on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood
They flash upon my inward eye
That is the bliss of solitude
And then my heart with pleasure fills
And dances with daffodils

Inward eye is the bliss of solitude and is the source of restful mind. We have forgotten about this inward eye and take no notice of it. With the outer eyes, we see the external world and are so much engrossed in it that we do not think that there is an internal world which is far more blissful, restful and peaceful.

Mind is restless by nature and it is very difficult to calm it down. It is just like catching hold of boisterous wind. We are to have a strong conviction that we are the masters of mind and all the power the restless mind has got are given by us. We are the masters of mind and not the slaves of mind. Unfortunately we are a bewildered lot and never make an attempt to realize our true nature which is far beyond mind. We consider ourselves nothing but mind. We are a tool in its hands. Realization of your own blissful Self will provide you the state of restful mind.

In order to attain that state of restful mind, avoid suggesting to mind, thoughts of human limitation and weaknesses such as sickness, death and old age. Rather fill you mind with lofty thoughts of truth, “I am infinite which has become the ‘body’. The ‘body’ as a manifestation of Spirit is the ever youthful spirit. Never forget the blissful spirit which is a rider of the horse and that horse is the body. Don’t lose the rider. Don’t worry much about the horse.

Restful state of mind is achieved when mind is with the Master, the Self, the rider. That state is the state beyond mind in which you forget about the body, the horse. It should never be interpreted that we must not look after the body. Endeavor must be made to know the real owner of this mortal frame, the rider of the horse. In search of the rider, we must not worry much even if the horse is lost.

A man was distributing sweets in a temple. When asked about the reason, he said that his horse was lost. Everyone was surprised to hear this unusual reply. Then he explained that the rider was saved. All our lives we are striving to save the horse. We have completely forgotten about the rider and become the victims of stress and strain of mind.

The state of restful mind can be achieved only by going to the source of peace and tranquility. That source is within and not without. Immense treasure of bliss is within you but all your energies are frittered away in the pursuit of evanescent pleasures of this world.

भीखा भूखा कोई नहीं, सबकी गठरी लाल।
अपने को जानत नहीं ताहि विधि भये कंगाल।।

The way to attain that treasure is very simple, natural and spontaneous. That bliss, that treasure is your own. That is your true nature and that is your real home. How can it be difficult to go to your own home? Only you are to walk inside through meditation. You are to undertake inner journey.

All through your life, you have been struggling hard in this external ephemeral world and got nothing but stress and stress of mind or heart diseases or other such diseases. You have been working for others. Now spare few moments for yourself. Do embark upon inward journey through meditation and enjoy the everlasting bliss.

With the regular meditation, mind will be restful and peaceful. A calm and peaceful mind is harbinger of every success in the world. Unless mind is attached to the eyes, you cannot perceive, unless the mind is attached to ears, you cannot hear. You may be turning the pages of a book without understanding a word unless mind is absorbed in deep study. Virtually no work is possible unless mind is put to it. In state of restful mind, you remain actively calm and calmly active.
